The program leader leads high-quality, interactive, and faith-building experiences through morning and evening programs. They also serve as the spiritual leader at camp and manage the camp office. The responsibilities of the program leader include, but are not limited to, the following:
Minimum Job Requirements
- Attend summer staff training in Colorado (beginning late May)
- Possess a current and valid US driver’s license
- Work closely and effectively with the Red Shirt staff by supporting and encouraging them to ensure an excellent camp experience for each participant
- Invest in youth leaders and youth.
- Build positive relationships with the local coordinator and the lodging facility, thanking them for partnering with us to serve the community
- Ability to live and work well in community and team dynamic
- Possess a strong and dependable work ethic, including being on time and responsible for all duties
- Ability to perform under challenging work conditions (hot temperatures, less sleep, and longer work hours)
- Ability to accept supervision and constructive criticism
- Work with the other staff leaders to resolve camp issues swiftly and effectively, referring to training and with the guidance of GMT staff
Position Job Requirements
- Memorize the Week of Hope program script prior to attending summer staff training
- Present all morning and evening programs at camp, following the provided script, with energy, excellence, and professionalism
- Set up program area (lights, sound, projector) and work with the project leader to double-check media equipment, lyrics, props, and cues before each program
- Run drama team rehearsals, working with this team to ensure quality additions to the program
- Visit project sites to encourage crews
- Organize and lead downtime fun activities with campers
- Train, lead, and support volunteer(s) as they assist with program
- Support fellow summer staff and assist in other areas of camp to deliver an unforgettable mission trip experience for all participants
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift objects up to 50 pounds
- Capable of working (walking, standing, sitting, etc.) for 10-14 hours per day
- Prepared to work busy camp days with an average of 5-6 hours of sleep per night
- Comfortable with driving a minivan in unfamiliar areas of the country for 5+ hours per day and when not driving, sitting in a vehicle for up to 10 hours per day. This could include highway, city, rural, and night driving
Compensation
- Depending on the number of camps and weeks you work, you can make up to $5200 for the summer. If you are a returning summer staff member, you could make up to an additional $500 for the summer. If you are a trainer or a flex staff member, your pay rate will be increased. This does not include any hiring bonuses, alternate lodging bonuses, referral bonuses, or the worship leader bonus mentioned below. All lodging and transportation costs are also included for the whole summer (except for the costs of getting to and from Colorado at the beginning and end of summer), so you only have to worry about food while traveling to and from your camp location and down time between camp weeks (while off-duty).
