The materials team member serves and supports the materials manager by assisting with the tool room, making daily deliveries, and helping manage tools and materials. The responsibilities of the materials team member include, but are not limited to, the following:
Job Requirements
- Review all volunteer training resources provided prior to camp
- Accompany the materials manager in the truck to assist with day-to-day tasks
- Keep notes on delivery and pickup needs
- Assist in navigation and delivery routes
- Assist in opening and running the tool room
- Add a level of safety, to minimize the materials manager’s focus on all the above, while driving. Allows the materials manager more space to engage with participants at the work sites
- Act as a safety inspector. Make sure all sites are free from danger and participants are working safely
- Serve and support the camp director, materials manager, and site coaches by helping in these areas: tool and material room(s), material requests during check-in, daily material pick-up and delivery, staging materials for the next day, and tracking ladders and tools. Work with the materials manager, crew manager, and cosponsor on a trash plan for any site that needs trash picked up
- Commit to developing relationships with participants, Red Shirts, lodging facility staff, cosponsors, and members of the community
- Attend nightly staff meetings
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift objects up to 50 pounds
- Capable of working (walking, standing, sitting, etc.) for 10-14 hours per day
- Prepared to work busy camp days with an average of 5-6 hours of sleep per night
